5 tips for traveling light on vacation

How to travel light by plane or train? I give you 5 tips for traveling light to optimize your luggage in a practical and light way and thus remain adaptable to all situations!

1) Backpack or suitcase?

You will answer me that everything depends on the destination of the trip but whether it is a trip by plane or train, I strongly advise you, to travel light everywhere, one of my advice to travel light is to favor a suitcase type “cabin suitcase”. Indeed, it can contain much more business than you think!

In the ideal format and weight to carry it everywhere or roll it, I suggest you buy a quality semi-rigid suitcase because it will better absorb the blows and shocks and you can keep it longer. The soft carry-on suitcase often has several inner and outer compartments and if your clothes are folded with common sense, you can fill it well!

2) No handbag but a mini backpack

You will agree with me if I tell you that traveling with a purse is a chore. First of all, you will always be looking for it in your travels because, although hanging from your shoulder, the bag will still be hiding in your back, to cling to the handle of the seat of the tgv or fall to the ground when you decide to remove your jacket or when you need to redo the knot of your shoe laces.

In short, to travel light everywhere, nothing is better among the tips for traveling light, I can only advise you to bring a small canvas backpack preferably with multiple pockets where you can store millions of things!

3) Prepare your toiletry bag with a tip

Don’t start carrying a cream for every part of your body or a different hairbrush for your lengths or bangs! Be pragmatic and prefer a face/body moisturizer and a good traditional hair brush preferably foldable.

For the shower, you will be surprised by the effectiveness of moisturizing and detangling shampoo-showers that will do very well during your stay. Also favor the mini tubes of toothpaste and the manual toothbrush (impossible to take the electric one with its refill as well as the hydropulsor).

As for makeup, it will be a small palette that contains everything and a single lipstick. If you use a foundation, make it like toothpaste, buy a small tube or prefer tanning on site. In a word, to travel light everywhere, you must have the essentials in your toiletry bag with a minimum of products!

4) How to fold and store your clothes in your cabin suitcase?

Do not start piling sweaters, jeans, socks on top of each other without strategy otherwise you will quickly find that your suitcase will not close even if you sit on it!

So again, be pragmatic:

  • all small things (underwear, socks, swimsuit must be stored in the small pockets of the suitcase, with accessories or other such as kleenex packs, scarf/sling, phone charger…
  • at the bottom of the suitcase, prefer pants to fold in half only and make piles for shorts, t-shirts.
  • at the top, will come to rest clothes thicker like sweaters or which crumple like shirts, to lay flat on the whole width of the suitcase like thin layers to lay on each other,
  • for shoes or toiletries, you have to fit them in the small spaces between the batteries or on the sides of the suitcase, often there are small spaces that can be filled.

One of my tips for traveling light is to take advantage of every square inch of the suitcase to “stuck” something in it. This way, you can take everything you need! But the golden rule is how to fold each item of clothing to the minimum thickness.
